-- An Ypsilanti man faces life in prison after a jury concluded he murdered a Canton Township transvestite with a NASCAR flashlight following a night of sex and drugs.

Andre Marcel Adams, 34, laughed and joked when the Wayne County Circuit Court jury returned Thursday after seven hours and found him guilty of first-degree murder for the April 15, 2006, death of Robert Lee Armstrong, said a sister-in-law, Chris Armstrong of Garden City.

The decision followed three days of testimony from forensic experts who claimed Adams' fingerprints were found on the flashlight that bludgeoned Armstrong, 46, whose two young children found him in his trailer. A witness, Dee Boner of Indiana, testified Adams confessed to a murder the day after the death.

Prosecutors Eaton Curtis and Robert Moran argued that Adams had a history of assault and called a 21-year-old who claimed Adams beat and raped him over five hours in a Livonia hotel room in February 2006.

Adams signed a statement admitting taking drugs and having consensual sex with Armstrong the night of his murder. Adams claimed he left when Armstrong passed out. Defense attorney Charlotte Steffen-Ramirez suggested a relative who disapproved of Armstrong's lifestyle may have killed him.
