Cindy A. McAvay, 47, of the 14000 block of 115th Street, pleaded guilty before County Judge Joe Wild recently to a charge of improper caging of primates and no contest to a charge of maintaining captive wildlife in a neglectful manner.

McAvay was charged after agent Brad Stanley of the Fish and Wildlife Commission cited her for keeping 21 marmoset monkeys in a 10-by-20 foot shed, which he said is not sufficient space for the monkeys.

"There are specific regulations about what types of cages you can keep them in, and the problem was that she did not have enough space," Grier said. "All she had to do was get bigger cages and clean up the place because it was not a good environment for animals, but she has remedied that."
